According to the Inter-Parliamentary Union, as of 2021, the global average of women in national parliaments is around 25%. This means that women hold less than one-fourth of the seats in parliamentary bodies worldwide.

However, the representation of women in parliaments varies significantly from country to country. In some nations, women have achieved significant political power and hold a substantial number of seats, while in others, their representation is still minimal.

One country that stands out for its high representation of women in parliament is Rwanda. Since the country’s genocide in 1994, Rwanda has made significant efforts to promote gender equality in politics. Today, women hold more than 60% of the seats in the Rwandan parliament, making it the highest percentage globally.
